About us

The Play House is an established and respected educational theatre company which was established nearly 25 years ago and which enjoys a strong local profile.  Each year the company delivers over 1,000 sessions to groups of children and young people and involves nearly 25,000 participants in its activities, largely within Birmingham and the West Midlands.  The Play House provides a dynamic and accessible theatrical resource that brings the curriculum to life and literally presents culture on the doorstep, for teachers and pupils alike.

All its theatre-in-education tours work with just a single class at a time ensuring each participant has the opportunity not only to watch but also to enter into rich fictional worlds and interact with a range of situations and characters. The Play House is well known for its Language Alive! work which specialises in touring theatre-in-education to primary school, the company also runs training and consultancy and a range of other projects and programmes.

“The Play House has demonstrated how the arts can become an effective and complementary partner… as well as meeting specific targets, its projects have provided a range of client groups with high quality, artistic experiences, giving them a voice and bringing enjoyment and colour into their lives.”
Professor Joe Winston, University of Warwick
