How to use Prospero

Please follow the instructions below to access and run the online learning resources. You can download a pdf of the information below here.

How to access and run Prospero

If you want to access Buried History’s online learning resources you will need to install a simple, safe piece of software to your computer: PC, Mac or Chromebook. It won’t run on smartphones or tablet computers.

If you don’t already have it, you will need to install the Google Chrome web browser on your computer. You can download Chrome here or watch the video guide to installing Chrome below:

Once you have installed Chrome:

  1. Go to
  2. Click HELP (at the top of the page)
  3. Click CHECK MY SET UP
  4. The site will check your computer and say Prospero is not installed. Click on the link to install it.
  5. click ‘Add Extension’ when prompted
  6. The Prospero icon (a lightning bolt) will appear in your browser tool bar, top right.

When you want to run Buried History materials in your lesson:

  1. Click on the Prospero icon.
  2. Click on SIGN IN (top right)
  3. Sign in with the email and password provided to you.
  4. Once logged in, click on THE PLAYHOUSE.
  6. Now click on the materials you want to use. Six are listed.

As soon as you click the materials they will automatically run. Just follow the onscreen prompts, tasks and activities.
