Spinning a Yarn is an exciting new programme for pupils from Years 3 and 4 using textiles and storytelling to examine issues of sustainability and citizenship.

Spinning a Yarn tells the story of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Emperor’s New Clothes through an exciting blend of storytelling, participation and the hands-on experience of weaving. The children take on the roles of citizens of the country of Devore, famous for its skilled craftspeople, in order to explore the country’s history and decide on its future.

We have worked with textile artist Jennifer Collier and set designer Angela Connors to create a rich and vibrant world for the children to inhabit in order to experience the story. The resource ideas to accompany the programme will hopefully give you lots of exciting ideas for a range or craft, literacy, ICT and drama activities that help you to explore the issues and themes in our drama with your classes.
