The Play House has a teachers’ group which holds regular sessions throughout the year. The group has a number of functions and has offered various opportunities for teachers to explore and extend their own practice at the same time as supporting the work of The Play House.
Since the group’s inception, teachers have:
- informed the shaping of new programmes
- helped develop the company’s new online resources
- participated in sessions exploring a range participatory drama strategies and techniques
- shared how drama can support work with the Early Years and children with English as an Additional Language
- acted as consultants on possible future directions for The Play House
During the Autumn and Spring terms 2010/2011 we will be running a sub-group of the teachers’ group called the curriculum group. This group will use a new Language Alive! programme, Spinning a Yarn as a stimulus for teachers to develop and deliver their own ongoing classroom activities. Spinning a Yarn will tour in the New Year to classes from years 3 and 4. The first meeting of this group will take place on Thursday 4 November between 4:15 and 5:45 at The Play House. The initial meeting of the curriculum group will discuss the following:
- Which schools are having the programme and what year groups are represented?
- The potential involvement of teachers in devising/resource generation?
- Areas of interest/thematic/curricular for teachers in the programme content?
- The creation of small ‘working parties’ within the curriculum group?
- An extended teachers’ preview of the programme including additional elements?
- How to facilitate networking/ideas sharing between teachers?
- The Play House website as a means of dissemination/supporting planning?
- Wider dissemination/project ‘outcome’?
- TIDE involvement?
- The attendance of teachers at The Play House programme development day?
- CPD input from The Play House?
